PLANT HEALTH CARE TECHNICIAN

Shadywood Tree Experts in Hopkins, MN is looking to hire a full-time, Tree Health Care Technician / Tree Care Apprentice. This position is a full time position, year-round position with duties split between the Plant Health Care Department (PHC) and the Tree Pruning Department. 

The ideal candidate will perform PHC duties during the growing season and will work on the tree crew as an apprentice learning all aspects of tree crew operations.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Plant Health Care Technician Duties include:

Safely and accurately measure pesticides

Safely apply pesticides and fertilizers

Perform health care inspections

Interact with customers

Perform basic maintenance on the PCH truck(s) and equipment

Tree Crew Apprentice duties include:

Safely assist with tree care ground operations including hauling brush, raking, cleanup, and other assigned tasks

Learn Tree Crew procedures and skills

The ideal candidate will be able to advance through Shadywood as new skills and certifications are earned. We provide complete training for all positions.

Qualifications:

  • Must have a valid drivers license

  • Must have or be able to obtain and maintain commercial pesticide applicator license within 4 weeks of being hired

  • Must have basic tree identification skills

  • Must be able to work in all weather conditions

  • Must be able to lift 30 lbs

  • Must be able to work independently, manage time and be an efficient production employee

  • Background in caring for residential and commercial properties is a plus

  • Diagnosing basic plant health issues is a plus. 

  • Basic equipment maintenance is a plus 


Full Time Administrative Support

Summary: Accounts Receivable Specialist and Consulting Arborist Support Staff

Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Oversee accounts receivable 

    • Check in with customers via phone/text/email to see how the job went and if they are satisfied

    • Collect and process payment for the work if the customer is satisfied

    • Invoice all jobs - including daily printing and emailing invoices along with weekly batch invoicing

    • Provide weekly reports on accounts receivable to management

    • Other duties as assigned

  • Consulting arborist support 

    • Learn and work within software system Arborgold 

    • Assist with arborists’ calendar management, including setting and adjusting appointments with customers, staff meetings, safety trainings 

    • Move or review items on the work scheduler

    • Checking status of current approved jobs

    • Correspond with customers with updated job proposals and changes, and assist with sales reinforcement for proposals not yet accepted 

    • Be a direct line for receiving payment from customers on a daily basis

    • Make adjustments to billing invoices 

  • Assist with answering phones/emails from customers

  • Other duties as assigned


Education/Experience:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and equivalent combination of education and experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Other Abilities:

  • Excellent communication skills, including on the phone and over email

We're searching for a consulting arborist with strong communication skills, a passion for arboriculture and building relationships with customers. *2-3+ years crew experience

Grounds Crew

Responsible for performing all required ground duties in support of specific job assignments as directed by crew leader or designated supervisor by performing the following duties.

Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Reports for duty at the designated location on time each day and is ready to leave for worksite.*

  2. Follows directions from the crew leader or designated supervisor.*

  3. Operates two handed equipment such as a chain saw or circular saw and has the physical ability to endure extreme climate variances.*

  4. Loads and unloads trucks with logs, brush, and debris and feeds brush into brush chipper.*

  5. Keeps work area picked up and orderly.*

  6. Sprays stumps and debarks as needed.*

  7. Drives and operates trucks and other equipment as assigned.*

  8. Keeps trucks and other assigned equipment in a neat and orderly fashion.*

  9. Reports the need for repairs to truck and equipment to crew leader.*

  10. Follows on the job safety practices.*

  11. Utilizes all appropriate personal protective equipment.*

  12. Directs traffic and places orange cones in street to block off work are from traffic.*

  13. Uses and maintains chainsaw safely.*

  14. Assists climbers and crew leaders working on the ground and aloft.*

  15. Operates the chipper and all other equipment safely.*

  16. Assists with driving, backing, dumping, and parking duties.* *Essential Function
